THE SUNDAY STAR, WASHINGTON, D. C., JANUARY 31, 1932—PART EIGHT. Biggest and Strongest Claims Ever Made for Any Motor Car: If we tell you the whole amazing TRUTH about how much BETTER Auburn’s new Twelve is, than ANY OTHER PRO- DUCTION CAR, you probably won’t believe it. i Therefore, we have carefully cen- sored this advertisement. Even so, we run the risk of your saying it is exagger- ation. Before reading further, please weigh our claims for this Twelve in the light of Auburn’s policy. There is only one way to sell automobiles—not with ballyhoo advertising—nor with mesmerized sell- ing — but only by what the car itself DOES, with you at the wheel. And that is how we will prove the following claims for our new Twelve: It accelerates faster! It runs faster and smoother! It climbs hills faster and easier! -than any other production car. It does everything BETTER that any other car can do and does infinitely MORE. And does these things in a way that completely eclipses all previous stand- ards of performance. This is not braggadocio. It is a state- ment of facts, offered as simply as we can present them. It must be remembered that Auburn’s growth in the last seven years has been due to its ability to produce motor cars that have set the pace for the industry. More than 16 million dollars have been spent in engineering and develop- ment work. Auburn’s new 12-Cylinder car could only come from an organization inspired by the responsibility of leadership and experienced in “doing the impossible.” Time and again Auburn has shattered precedent, introduced improvements far beyond the conception of the indus- try, and made claims for these achieve- ments, about which it was said: “It can’t be done.” But year by year, as a result of grow- ing public confidence, an increasing number of people have LEARNED TO ACCEPT AUBURN’S ANNOUNCEMENTS AT THEIR FACE VALUE. A striking example of this was the instantaneous and overwhelming popu- lar demand for the new Straight Eight cars that Auburn introduced a year ago. Claims were made for those cars, which at the time, were considered by some to be as extravagant as the claims that we now make for this new Twelve. Last year, in the face of a depression with the industry’s sales down, Auburn increased its sales—over 20,000 cars more than for the previous year —a gain of 150%! So, when we invite you to see this new Twelve, and tell you THERE HAS NEVER BEEN A CAR BUILT that can even approach it, in WHAT it does and the WAY it does it, we know our claims will not go entirely unchallenged. But his- tory will repeat itself! We will not tell you about Dual- Ratio, which by a turn of a lever com- pletely CHANGES the car’s performance. One turn produces pep for lightning acceleration—and power to sail up hills. The other turn totally changes the car’s character, producing speed with smooth- ness and economy that is almost like coasting— Nor tell you all about the new 12- Cylinder engine, which despite its phenomenal power and speed, will run more miles per gallon than many Sixes and Eights of much less Horse Power— Nor tell you about its chassis, which is brand new from end to end— Instead, we invite you to verify our claim that this Twelve out-performs any production car ever built. No matter how high your expectation has been built up as a result of reading this advertisement, we promise you the car’s performance will exceed it. AN B\ RN POWERED BY LYCOMING NEW 160 H.Pp.
