B-20 NEW STAR FAILS T0 CHARM SCIENCE Outburst of Brilliance 100 Years Old Must Hold Light to Rate Place. By the Assoftiated Press. NEW YORK, December 20.—Th€ new star of the northwestern heavens, which during the last five days per- formed the unparalleled feat of in- creasing its brilliancy more than 100,- 000 times, will have to be more than & passing attraction, a flash in the | panorama, if its is to be included in | the new Hayden Planetarium of the | American Museum of Natural History. Gets Yule Wish BOY HELPED IN GETTING MOTHER TO BEDSIDE. “If the new star persists until the opening of the planetarium next | Spring, we shall be happy to find ways | and means of showing it in its proper place in the Herculis constellation,” Dr. Clyde Fisher, astronomy curator at the museum, promised today. News of the pyrotechnic outburst making known the star’s presence was | flashed to earth over the fastest known means of communication, light. Trans- mission of the message required only 100 years. “In reality,” Dr. Fisher disclosed, “the Nova is not a new star, nor, for that matter, is the outburst that made it visible really recent.” An English astronomer “scooped” the world on the century-old incident Friday. Of the event, Dr. Harlow Shapely, director of the Harvard Uni- versity Observatory said, “it is pos- sibly the most important stellar out- burst ever witnessed.” “If it fades back to its original brilliancy, which was so weak it could not be seen by the human eye, it will not appear in the planetarium,” Dr. Fisher threatened. “Only stars that can be seen without telescopes will be shown in our artificial sky.” TWO PRESIDENTS MENTIONED IN SUIT | | | | Coolidge, Hoover, and Also Cur-| tis, Referred to in Mar- giotti Hearing. By the Assoclated Press. PITTSBURGH, Pa., December 20.— The names of two former presidents and a vice president of the United States were mentioned today in Good- body & Co.s $32.610 suit against Charles J. Margiotti, attorney general designate. The brokerage firm claims the sum is the amount Margiotti, noted Penn- sylvania lawyer, owes on a margin account. Attorneys for the defense insists the firm failed to close the account when instructed to do so and that in reality it owes Margiotti about $5.000. Margiotti, testifying today, read a letter he said he received in August, 1931, from A. D. Condon, stock sales- man for the company, urging that he put up more money on his margin | account and describing a yachting trip with Charles Curtis, then Vice Presi- dent. The letter quoted Curtis as saying the approaching Winter would “be bad unless things change.” He was further quoted in the letter as saying “unless business shows a pick-up | Coolidge will announce his candidacy.
