TURKEY RECEIPTS CONTINUE: HEAVY Prices Still-Steady to Firm. Dressing Plants Work at Capacity. Truckloads of live turkeys from | B Maryland, Virginia and North Caro- lina continue very much in evidence about the wholesale poultry market, receipts being so heavy that iocal dressing plants are working at full capacity, The market continues steady to firm with dealers paying close to top prices quoted. Retallers are holding off un- til the last minute, unable to deter- mine just what prices will prevail, Paying prices for live turkeys de- livered at local dressing plants ranged from 22 to 23 cents for young hens and toms to 15 and 16 cents for No. 2s. LY Its Own Series of Market Averages By the Associated Press. NEW YORK, December 19.—Start~ % |ing January 2, the first market day 3 of the new year, the Associated Press will start daily compilation of its own series of price averages of stocks and bonds traded in the New York Stock Exchange. It has established a statistical de- D - NN N NN NN NN NE NN nee partment, headed by & statisticlan of extensive training, both academic and practical. Under his guidance & staff of tabulators has been busily engaged for weeks in searching the price records of the last eight years to provide a background the new series. m’l"':»:bmk nven‘::' will consist of an arithmetical price averages of 30 selected industrials, 15 rails and 15 utilities, and a composite average of the total of 60. As the series has been carried back, adjustments have been made for stock split-ups and dividends, and such adjustments will be made in the future as developments necessitate. At the start of 1935, however, the P. Will Compile average will be a pure mathematical average. ‘The bond averages will consist of 20 ralls, 10 industrials, 10 utilities, 10 foreign, and 10 low-yield issues. More rails have been selected than indus- trials or utilities, because the group is much larger in the exchange list. A separate group of low yleld issues has been added, since trends in that group often vary considerably from trends elsewhere. The new averages will replace in the Assoclated Press report the price indices, based on 1926 average prices as 100 of the Standard Statistics Co. C, THURSDAY, DECEMBER 20, 1934 U. S.
