8 i SUNDAY STAR, WASHINGTON, D. C, JANUARY 27, 1929—PART 3. Capital Women Unite I In Aid of Fund Drive e . e nipy For Community Chest! " . Materially Promoting Wel-; fare Campaign by Active Participation in Organiza- tion Work and by Con- tributions. Washington women are working heart and soul for the success of the Com- munity Chest campaign, which opens “officially” tomorrow. Already the list of women contributors is very large and it is growing daily by leaps and bounds. Mrs. Sidney F. Taliaferro, wife of the Commissioner of the District of Co- lumbia, who is, incidentally, the only Woman serving as a vice chairman in the special gift unit of the chest, is leading all the men in the matter of 'gifts” received in advance of the open- ing date. Approximately 30 other prominent women here are serving on the special cift unit with outstanding success, gifts amounting to $500 or over being their goal from each person approached in advance of Monday, if possible. Many of these well known women—some be- longing to organizations joining the chest and others belonging merely as themselves, but all working for the honor of the National Capital—are temporarily giving all their time to the campaign, and the results are expected o be remarkable in the size of the gifts Teceived. Among the members of the special gift unit are Mrs. Cary T.
