Linz, Mrs. Harry J. Schmidt and Mrs. George T. Thompson were joint hostesses at a luncheon and card party given yesterday to the members of the home board commit- tee of Washington Centennial Chapter, Order of the Eastern Star. Thirty members of this and other committees of the chapter attended the luncheon served in the home of Mrs. Linz on Legation street, Chevy Chase. Fair was found guilty yester- day of the murder of Patrolman John E. McDaniel and sentenced to die in the electric chair November 2, the jury which returned the verdict of guilty having deliberated only 90 minutes. Defense counsel announced immedi- ately after Fair heard the sentence reag that he would move for a new trial today. Thus the succession of violent acts which followed in the wake of the al- leged kidnaping of Mrs. Kitty Heath on July 3 terminated today in the death sentence of the man whom Mrs, Heath asserts forcibly transported her to Florida. STATEMENT CHALLENGED. A recent statement of the Democratic national committee to the effect that the rank and file of the Woman’s Party would not adhere to_the organization’s decision to support Herbert Hoover was challenged yesterday by Miss Mabel Vernon, national executive secretary of the Woman’s Party.
