INDUSTRIALS SEND GURB PRICES U Croker-Wheeler Reaches y New High of 150—Rayon Sets Record. BY WILLIAM F. HEFFERNAN, Special Dispatch to The Star. NEW YORK, September 20.—Sharp ., upward movements in industrial spe- clalties made up the outstanding inci- dents in today’s curb. In a number of instances the market for certain stocks appeared to have reached the point where it was practically bare of offerings at current price levels. One of the noteworthy features was the turther rise of 30 points in Crocker- ‘Wheeler to a new high record of 150. At this figure it had scored a gain during the past two days of 53 points. Some traders were inclined to place credence in the possibility of this com~ pany figuring in the much talked con- solidation involving Westinghouse and Baldwin Locomotive, although there was no official confirmation. New Highs at Opening. A number of new high records were again marked up during today’s early trading. These include Sanitary Gro- cery, up 5 points to 415; Safeway Stores, up 6 points to 701 and Sparks Withing- ten, up almest 10 points to 140. In the mining division New Jersey Zinc extended its 8-point gain of Wed- nesday another 6 points to 240. Others that reached new highs included Indus- trial Rayon, National Rubber Machinery issues, Crocker Wheeler, up another 10 points to 130; Seeman Bros., Raybestos, Marconi of London and Lafcourt Realty. Albers, president and general manager of the Kroger Grocery & Bak- ing Co., today announced the purchase by the Kroger concern of 138 Piggly ‘Wiggly Stores in Dayton and Cincinnati, Ohio, and Louisville, Ky. The financial terms were not announced. ‘The largest unit in the deal comprised 108 stores of the Piggly Wiggly Valley Corporation located in Louisville. Nineteen stores in Dayton and 11 in Cincinnati were included in today's purchase, Mr. Albers said. ' The two Ohio units were operated under the name of the Middle States Stores Cor- poration.
