RESORTS. ALLYEAR GAYETY RULESIN AVANA Special Cruises to Carry Vacationists to Nearby Spanish Paris. HAVANA, June 5—With steam- ship companies arranging & number of cruises to this gay ‘‘foreign” port through the Summer, the notion that Cuba is solely a Winter resort is being dispelled. Life - here moves in the same picturesque tempo through the year, with cooling sea breezes air- conditioning the island for the June and July visitor. For the visitor who remains for but a short time the great charm of Havana may lie in its joyous night life. The people seem to live for pleasure and find a lot of it in their open-air restaurants and cabarets. The city has all the Old World charm of Parls, with considerable Spanish sea- soning. Another charm for people from the United States will be found in the manner in which the Cubans live. There is & certain abandonment about RESORTS. NEW HAM'I’SH"}E. The Mansion New Hampton, N. H. Dur- ing the day it finds full swing at the bathing beaches; in the evening it is transferred to the restaurants and cafes. The Prado, a beautiful parkway which runs through the center of the city, is the scene of many of Havana's gayeties. . Souvenir hunters will find good shops in Obispo and O'Reilly streets. These thoroughfares are so mnarrow that they have been made one-way streets, They are so overhurg with signs and awnings that they are shady even at midday. The Calle Obispo is now called the Py y Margall, but is generally known by the old name. Although these streets suggest an Oriental bazaar, they are clean and have been repaved with modern ma- terial, making the roadway as prac- tical as the sidewalk for pedestrians. Bread Control Asked. NORMANDY RETAINS RENAISSANCE CHARM Region, but Short Distance From Paris, Typified by Beauvais. REAUVAIS, June 5.—Charm seems to center in Normandy, where the road of adventure takes the visitor through ane of the most picturesqiie regions of France. Though only a short dis- tance from the metropolitan Paris, the visitor, within a few hours, may visit #cenes that have evaded modern- ity and still retain their heritage of Renaissance art. 3 Through a countryside reminiscent of England in hills and dales, gardens and by-ways of interest, the adventur- ing tourist seeks the apex of sights and finds it in the medieval.city of Beauvais. Its 52 dials move in automatic precision, while at midday there is a drama enacted of the last judgment, with the actors moving in and out of the scene in a lifelike performance. ‘The wonder of mechanism is displayed in the movements of tides, the sun and moon and stars, all keeping time with the passing centuries, for the clock was completed by L.
