CEREMONY HONORS EVANGELIST MOODY Religious Fervor Sweeps 4,000 New Yorkers Attending Cen- tennial Observance. By the Associated Press. Under the spell of stirring hymnal music sung by the Westminster Mixed Choir and swayed by testimonials of speakers whose lives were moulded by Mr. Moody’s teachings, the crowd transformed the scene into a revival meeting dominated by religious emo- tion such as Moody himself once evoked. The audience of 4,000 joined with the choir in singing the Moody- Sankey hyms. Led by Dr. John Finlay Willlamson, the massed voices of choir and congre- THE EVENING gation swept through the hall in the familiar harmonies of “Rock of Ages,” “When the Roll Is Called Up ‘Yonder,” “I Need Thee Every Hour” and other hymns sung when Moody was preach- ing to millions at revival meetings of the last century. Three principal speakers, all of whom were converted by Evangelist Moody, told the crowd of their asso- clation with the evangelist. They were Dr. Henry Sloane Coffin, president of the Union Theological Semingry; Dr. John R. ARKANSAS CITY, Ark, Oct. 23— Four men were convicted by & jury yesterday on charges of dynamiting a combined store and residence at Mc- Gehee September 19 in which 3-year- old Joe Mansour was injured eriti- cally. Circuit _Judge T. G. Parham sen- tenced Herbert Thompson, 19, and Joe Strother, 35, to three years in prison and Clarence Jenkins, 23, to one year. B. H. Whittaker, 19, was given a one- year suspended sentence. State witnesses testified the four dynamited the store and residence, oc- cupied by N. A. Mansour and his fam- ily, after Thompson quarreled with Mrs, Ben Bezz, a clerk in the store, over her refusal to cash a check or sell him cigarettes on credit. F. ‘Walpole, head of a bankrupt druq store chain, was convicted yesterday of uttering & forged note—one of & series of 40 .indictments charging he de- frauded the Morris Plan Co. of St. Joseph of more than $480,000. ‘The Circuit Court jury sentenced him to five years in State prison. Officials of the Morris Plan Co, at Kansas City said the 8t. Joseph Oo, is & local organization, having pur- chased only the right to use the Morris Plan name.
