VIENNA, Austria, September 30.— Wedding bells will ring in Athens in January of next year on the occasion of the marriage of Grown Prince Paul of Greece to Princess Frederika of Brunswick, it was learned today from an authoritative source. Prince Paul's engagement to the 20- year-old princess was celebrated Tues- day by a small family circle at the Hubertus Lodge, Grunau, Upper Austria, whence the prince will soon leave for Munich and Athens. The match undoubtedly has great political significance. 1In the first place, in the Balkans, a King without male issue is always in danger of los- ing his throne and the marriage of | King George of Greece was childless. Now that the King is divorced he can | hardly remarry without provoking the anger of the orthodox clergy. So his younger brother, Crown Prince Paul, has to marry to assure the continuity of the Glucksburg dynasty in Greece. Secondly, the marriage with the daughter of a pronounced German Nazi prince will probably sfrengthen the already strong ties between Ger- many and Greece. Aside from the political aspects of the match, the question of money is also to be considered, it is believed, because the Duke of Brunswick, the only son of the late Duke of Cumber- land, is one of the wealthiest German princes. ‘The bride-to-be and the prince are | (not only related to all the famous | | royal families of Europe, but are clcse | relatives of each other because Prince Paul's mother was the sister of Kaiser Wilhelm, while Princess Frederika's mother is the only daughter of the former German Emperor. Prince Paul is 35 years old Prince Paul left Athens Saturday morning by plane and arrived in Vienna in time to catch the Orient Express by which he traveled to Aubach, Upper Austria (Copyright, 1837.)
