NEW YORK, October 29.—Gains of fractions to 3!: points blanketed the curb market today. A few scattered setbacks were seen late in the session, but the main body of shares were pushed higher on fairly active trading. Atlantic & Pacific pushed forward more than 3 points and Pennsylvania Salt Mfg. added about 3. Consolidated Mining & Smelting moved up roughly 2, and gains of a point or so were recorded by Consolidated Gas of Balti- more, Electric Bond & Share and Bunker Hill & Sullivan. BY the Associated Press NEW YORK, October 29.—Total | bank clearings in the United States receded from the amount in the week preceding, but the gain over the total | for a year ago was widened. The aggregate for 22 leading cities, as reported to Dun & Bradstreet, for the week ended Wednesday, October 28, was $5,782,673,000, against $4.- 840,431,000 last year, a gain of 19.5 per cent. This contrasted with an in- crease of 7 per cent a week earlier. ‘The turnover at New York City was higher, amounting to $3,630,954,000, which compared with $3,002,759,000 in the similar 1935 period. The per- centage increase rose to 20.9, while a week earlier there was a loss of 1.4 per cent. At outside centers the ag- gregate was $2,151,719,000, a gain of 17.1 per cent over the $1,837,672,000 recorded in the corresponding 1935 week. All cities showed gains over last | year's totals, with the exception of Omaha, which sustained a loss of 11.9 per cent. At Boston, Pittsburgh, Cleveland, Baltimore, St. Louis, Dale las, Portland, Oreg., and Seattle the advances were 20 per cent or more.
