CARMEL, Calif, December 21.— A slipper identified as belonging to Mrs. Eliot Boke Schaffner, object of an intense search since her disap- pearance Tuesday, was found meshed in the floating kelp of Cookes Cove, Carmel Bay, late yesterday. Servants made the identification. Mrs. Schaffner is the wife of Joseph Schaffner, a director of a nationally known clothing firm. Althought Chief Englund said the discovery strengthened his belief the wealthy soclety matron had thrown herself into the bay, an almost inch-by-inch hunt by United States soldiers, airplanes, civilian authorities and artist colony volunteers was con- tinued. —_— 121 FOOD BASKETS MAKE YULE GIFTS Pruit Growers’ Express Workers Aid Christmas Cheer for Tenth Consecutive Year. For the tenth successive year, em- ployes of the Pruit Growers Express Co. today played Christmas hosts to needy Washington families and de- livered to 121 of them huge baskets of food purchased by the contribu- tions of the workers throughout the Ppast year. For the fifth year the deliveries were made by the circulation de- partment of The Star, whose drivers picked up the baskets at the Munsey Building early this morning. George D. Sullivan served as chair- man of the Christmas Cheer Club, which collected 5 cents per week from t.he employes to pay for the food The baskets' average cost was u 30 and included soup, oats, apple jelly, salt, bacon, baking powder, pork and beans, corn, tomatoes, milk, 8 pounds of smoked shoulder, sirup, ‘pancake flour, flour, sugar, coffee, lard, butter, Irish potatoes and bread. The families were selected through the Washington Council of Social Agencies. ARTIST CLAIMS ASSAULT Declares She Was Struck by Hollywood Designer. LOS ANGELES, December 21 (#). —Hedwig Koch, Hollywood artist, has complained in Superior Court that Fulton T. Watson, tailor and designer of masculine costumes for feminine film luminaries, “popped me on the jaw” because she insisted on keeping company with his son, Fulton G. Wat- son.
