-~ SOCIETY. FRIDAY, DECEMBER 21, 17 SOCIETY. OCIETY Mrs. Roosevelt to Accompany President for Lighting of Community Tree Christmas Eve. Mrs, Henry C. Spruks and her children, Henry John, 2d, and Jean Stewart, who, with Mr, Spruks, will spend the holidays Scranton, Pa., with Mr. Spruks’ parents, Mr. Spruks is connécted with the State De- in Live Your Happy the platform being; erected in Lafayette Square, where the community Christmas tree stands and which the President will light Christmas eve at 5:10 o'clock. The lighting of the tree will follow a program of Christmas music by the United States Marine Band. Invitations have been issued by the President and Mrs. Roosevelt for the first of the State receptions this sea- son which will be in honor of the members of the diplomatic corps in ‘Washington. The reception will be given Thursday evening, January 3, at 9 o'clock. Yesterday Mrs. Roosevelt was as- sistant to Santa Claus, when she dis- tributed gifts from a giant tree in the Tompkins Square club house of the Boys’ Club of New York. More than 600 boys of the East Side were in the company. Mrs. Roosevelt is spending a few days in New York and will return Sunday in time to keep the engagement with crippizd children who will be entertamned by the Kiwanis Club of Washington. The club will give its annual Christmas party Sunday afternoon at 2:20 o'clock in the Roosevelt High Schodl, the honor guests being the crippled children and others invited are the children of members of the club, and Mrs. Roosevelt will assist in the dis- tribution of gifts from the tree. ‘The Ambassador of France and Mme. de Laboulaye were hosts at din- ner last evening, their guests includ- ing the Ambassador of Poland, Mr. Patek; the Ambassador of Spain and Senora de Calderon, the charge d'af- faires of Belgium and Princess de Ligne, the Undersecretary of the Treasury and Mrs. Thomas Jefferson Coolidge, the Assistant Secretary of State and Mrs. Sumner Welles, Mr. and Mrs, Adolph Caspar Miller, Lieut.
