Mr. Kern was a frequent contributor to the Ofl and Gas Journal of Tulsa, Okla.. and was recognized as an au- thority on petroleum. Mr. Kern was a Republican. He had been prominent in movements of the ‘Washington Board of Trade, and was delegated by the board to help organ- ize the Chamber of Commerce of the United States. He was a charter member of the National Press Club, member of the Columbia Historical Society, Temple Noyes Lodge, No. 32, of Masons, Association of Oldest In- habitants, Society of Natives of the District of Columbia, Society of the War of 1812, Sons of the American Revolution, Sons of the Revolution, District of Columbia Bar Association and American Bar Association. Surviving are his wife, Catharine R. W. Dean Kern; four sons, Willis F., instructor in mathematics at the Naval Academy, Annapolis; Everett D., Miles S, and Wells B., all of Wash- ington; one brother, Edward, and one sister. Alice L. She was stricken and died before the arrival of a doctor.
