Orchestra’s Guest Artists HILIP JAMES, American com- poser; Blanca Renard, Chilean planist, and Christmas music from Russia, Italy and France are leading feaures in the pro- gram to be given this afternoon at Constitution Hall by the National Symphony Orchestra, Hans Kindler, conductor. After gerving a year in France in the In- fantry during the World War, he was made commanding officer of Gen, Pershing’s Headquarters Band. In a letier to Mr. James, Gen. Persh- ing spoke of the band and its con- ductor as the greatest example of military music in the United States. In 1922 Mr. James founded the New Jersey Orchestra and was its conductor for seven years. He has also been conductor of the Brooklyn Orchestra Society and has appeared as guest conductor of the Oratorio Society of New York and the Manhat- tan Symphony Orchestra. In addition to his work at Colum- bla and New York Universities, he has been active for the past two years in the radio field, conducting over 200 symphonic programs, repre- senting 2,000 symphonies, tone poems, sultes, concertos and other items from all composers. Music lovers will welcome the op- portunity of hearing the composer conduct his own work this afternoon, for which event he was invited to Washington by Dr. Kindler. Blanca Renard, who will interpret the solo piano part in- Manuela de Falia’s brilliant fantasy, “Nights in a Garden of Spain,” was born of Spanish parentage in Chile. Because of her re- markable talent she was sent, at the age of 14, by the government of Chile, to study in Germa She graduated from the conservatory in Berlin and was awarded the diploma of honor and the Hollaender Medal. She has concertized successfully in Germany, Canada and the United States. She made her New York debut three months ago and received the unqualified praise of leading critics. Service Band Concerts HE United States Navy Band Symphony Orchestra, Lieut. Charles Benter conducting, will play at the sail loft, navy yard, Tues- day evening at 8 o'clock. The pro- gram will be made up of selections appropriate to the Christmas season and will include Rapee's “Christmas Bells,” Humperdinck's fairy opera, “Hansel and Gretel,” and Rimsky- Korsakow's “Night Before Christmas.” Other concerts at the sail loft this THE week will be Monday morning at 11 o'clock, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday at 11:30. There are no concerts scheduled for the evenings of December 25 or January 1, ‘The following concert dates will be included in the schedule of the United States Marine Band and Symphony Orchestra for the coming week.
