Bamuel P. Cowley, Department of Justice sgent killed in a gun battle with “Baby Face” Nelson, will be memorialised this evening in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, where once he taught Sunday schoal. In the chapel of the church, at Six- teenth street and Columbia road, a distinguished group of officials and | church dignitaries, friends of Cowley and members of his family, will gather st 7 o'clock to pay tribute and offer prayer for “one who laid down his life for his country.” Cowley, a graduate of George Washington University Law School, lived in Washington several years prior to his death, November 28, 1934. Many of his class mates will be pres- ent at the ceremonies tonight. An elabdrate musical program has been arranged, beginning with “Though Trials Throng Your Way.” Mrs. Melba Condie Osmond will sing *“Trust in the Lord”; a choir anthem, “Death, Where Is Thy Sting?” will be featured. Edgar B. Brossard of the United BStates Tariff Commission will pro- nounce the invocation. George D. Casto, an attorney and friend of Cow- ley, will tell of his outstanding work. Benediction by G. A. Iverson, Special Assistant Attorney General. Representatives of the Department of Justice will be present, to pay trib- ute to their former comrade. A special program of Christmas music will be given by the Tuesday Evening Music Club at the University Club next Thursday at 8:30 p.m. Both classic and modern music, most of which is based on folk songs of other lands, will be included in the program. In addition to the choruses there will be solos in the carols by Barbara Murray, Myrtle Barnes, Alice Sherrer, Ina Holzschelter, Catherine Gross, Helen Perry, Frances Tucker, Irene Wetzell and Laura Lyle.
