Lindy’s motor of 1927 was a Wright Whirl- wind of the J-5 type. It was a nine-cylinder radial air-cooled engine, weighing 500 pounds and developing 220 horsepower when it turned over 2,000 times a minute. That means it over an automobile engine of similar power which weighs as much as 12 pounds to the horsepower.
