A—10 * THE SUNDAY STAR, WASHINGTON, D. C., THRD STARHONE | = e sowe o oo - WILL OPEN TODAY Model Resldence in Shel- bourne Section Is Smallest of 1930 Series. blic exhibition of the third of the es of model homes being sponsored this year by The Star in co-operation with the Operative Builders’ Association starts today. This is ln house of modest size and cost, with Eng- lish architectural lines predominating, built by Baer & Scholz, rom plans. by Robert O. Scholz which have been ap- roved by experts of The Star model Romes committee. It is located at 2004 M street northeast, in the Shelbourne section, adjoining ‘a forested area of the National Arboretum. This house will be open to the public daily from 9 am. tc § p.m. throughout the ensuing month. It has been fur- nished for the demonstration by the Hub Furniture Co. in & style in keep- ing with the needs and character of a dwelling of its size. Third Modd Home. The Star model homes program of this year thus enters its third major phase, the first two of the series of five exhlhluon dwellings previously having been thrown open to all interested in modern home planning, construction, equipment and decoration. A detached colonial brick dwelling erected at 6502 Maple avenue, in the forest section of Chevy Chase, Md, erected by Shannon .& Luchs, Inc,, lans by Arthur B. Heaton, the first orthe series, today enters its ‘third week of exhibition. The second of the series, an unusual English group house of three stories, erected at 1509 Forty-fourth street, in Foxall, adjoining Foundry Branch Valley, by Waverly Taylor, Inc., enters its second week of demonstration to- day. It was built from plans by Waverly Taylor in collaboration with Porter & Lockle. Hundreds already have inspected these dwellings and a steady stream of visitors are expected to attend the open- ing of the Shelbourne house. Smallest of Series. To reach this dwelling visitors may drive out H street to Bladensburg road northeast, left to M street, then right to the house, which is identified by The Star model homes sign. It is the cen- ter unit of a group of five. ‘This is the smallest and least ex- pensive of the series sponsored this year by The Star, which includes houses of a wide variety of cost, style and size. Because the planning of a row house of modest size is a dificult thing, when effort is made to achieve correct archi- tectural lines and to keep the construc- tion cost low, the builders and archi- tect made an especially careful study of the matter before plans were sub- mitted to the model homes committee. ‘The house contains six main rooms, 8 wide front porch of inviting char- lfler a t'o-cwry Tear porch. which is screened, a basement of full size and euhb—foot ullin‘ height.
