NEW YORK, December 14.—Joint re- search by American insurance com- p‘nlu to prolong the life of the aver- citizen was urged by Irenee du Pont, vice chairman of the Board of E. I du Pont de Nemours & Co., in an address at the opening session of the twenty-third annual Convention of Life Insurance Presidents. “Jt is my sincere bellef,” he said, “that research by life insurance wm panies, had it started 20 years when the du Pont Co. had alrendy started research in, its laboratories, would have resulted in the lengthening of life of the average citizen of the United States by at least two years.” Hesitant to Spend Funds. Mr. du Pont, who is a director of the Equitable Life Assurance Society of the United States, said that life insur- -neo executives, because the busxneu had been largely mutualized, had be hesitant to spend funds held in t.ruat for research. “It would be well,” he continued, | “for you to band yourselves together sand undertake joint research.
