FIN SLUMP RECORDED BY FRENCH BONDS . Domestic Corporate Issues Move Higher—Federal Group Improves. By the Associated Press. NEW YORK, September 26— French bonds broke sharply as domestic issues moved higher in the bond market today. Slow to open, as traders digested implications of devaluation of the franc, French government 7l%s * plunged 16!, points on one transac- tion to 140, a new low for the year. The unstamped 7s went unwanted af- ter being offered at 150, off 10. Other issues influenced by the antici- pated 25 to 34 per cent depreciation of the currency-included Soissons 6s, off 8 at 15514 and Nord Railway 628, off 6 at 120. Each on small turn- over. Other foreign issues clung to & narrow range. ¢ Both United States Governments and corporate bonds attracted heavy trading as total volume for all bonds reached the impressive figure of $9,- 185,000, the largest Saturday turn- over since February 8, when it was $10,617,000. A week ago the aggre- gate was $7,493,000. Railroad loans constituted the focal point of buying operations. Great Western 4s rose 7s to 4213, Alle- gheny 55 of 1944 added 1Y, at 993, “Katy” adjustment 5s gained 7s to 65, Baltimore & Ohio 4!2s advanced 13 to 803, and New York Central 6s added 17 at 11715, Utility issues held about even and ndustrials tended to sag a bit. Although the Federal list flinched a “little in early trading, prices hardened later and the majority of Treasuries closed higher with gains ranging to 6/32 of a point. BALTIMORE, Md., September 26.— Under generally light receipts, espe cially from nearby points, the egg mar- ket holds firm, with values showing another advance of a cent a dozen over last week. Large whites are bringing 35a36, mediums 30a33, with current receipts selling mostly 29a30. Careful grading and prompt shipments are necessary, however, to obtain top values, Market for live poultry has been more active the past week, with prices generally showing an advance under a good demand, especially for old hens, due to the Jewish holiday. Young broiling Rocks, averaging around 23 pounds, are bringing 18a21, mixed col- ored 17a20, Leghorns 17al18, with all poor, thin stock hard to move at 15a16. Old hens, 44 pounds and over, have been in good demand at 20a22; mixed colored, 18a21, with poor, thin stock and Leghorns slow to move out at 12a16 and old roosters hard to place at 12a14. Market for ducks continues dull at 12a15, with white varieties bringing top values. Garden Truck Lower. 5 Native and nearby garden truck in liberal receipt, and values generally show a slight decline from last week at the following quotations: Stringless beans, 50a75 bushel; beets, 2.00a2.50 hundred; carrots, 3.00a4.00 hundred; sugar corn, 6al2 dozen; eggplants, 10a 20 hamper; lima beans, 90a1.25 ham- per; peppers, 10a20 hamper; spinach, 50a65 hamper; tomatoes, 20a40 ham- per, with canners’ stock selling mostly 30a40 bushel. Prices on the live stock market continued on a firm basis the last week, with only hogs and lambs show- ing a decline according to the weekly report of the local bureau of the De- partment of Agriculture. The decline in hog values averaged around 20a35. Lamb prices opened the week at mostly 50 cents higher, but dropped later, closing weak to 50 cents below the close of last week. Cattle Market. In the cattle division a number of loads of good grade steers scaling 1.200-1,375 pounds sold at 8.25a8.35. Two loads of strictly good 1,200-1,300 weights brought 8.50 and a part load 8.60. Most steers were of medium grade, weighing below 1,350, and sold at 7.25a7.75, with common steers go- ing at 6.25a6.75. Trade on stocker and feeder account broadened con- siderably towards the close of the week with several lots and a few loads of medium to good feeders, scaling 900-1,000, selling at 6.50a7.50. Common light weight stockers cashed at 5.0086.00; most sales from 5.50 up. Several lots of medium grade slaugh- ter heifers cleared at 6.25a6.65; a few good heifers to 7.25; plain lots down to 5.50. Common and medium grade cows closed at 4.5085.25; low cutters and cutters 3.25a4.25; cows being around 25 cents higher. Bulls shared in the broader demand to sell 25 cents higher; medium grades making 5.25a5.75. Vealers opened the week at 50 cgnts above Monday and held firm on fol- lowing days. Good and choice grades sold 10.00, common and medium grades 8.00a9.50. A few culls down to 7.00. Weighty calves sold steady, com- mon grade 5.00a6.00. Medium to 7.00. Hog Market. The late quotations on hogs put good and choice 165-210 at 10.50a 10.80, and 210-250, 10.50a10.80. A few head of heavy butchers sold down- ward to 9.50. Desirable 140-155 weights brought 10.00a10.25, most 120~ 140 averages making 9.60a9.85. Good packing sows cleared at 8.6529.25. ‘The week'’s peak price on lambs was 11.15 for a deck of choice grade. At the close of the week good and choice grades went mostly at 10.00. Common and medium grades sold late at 7.50a9.25. A few culls down to 6.00. Good slaughter ewes brought 3.00a3.50, cull and common ewes 1.00a 2.00. Grain Quotations. Closing prices were: Wheat—No. 2, red, Winter, garlicky, spot, domes- tic, 1.17; September delivery, 1.17.
