Nearly ideal crop conditions that | prevailed throughout the entire North American wheat belt, including bene- ficial rains in Spring wheat areas, led simultaneous dearth of aggressive dry weather in the corn belt had a steadying effect on the corn market, and for the first time in several years The close for wheat was nervous, 1%al% under yesterday's finish, July, 787:879: corn, unchanged to s lower. ing from 2 cents decline to an equal advance. Almost from the outset wheat values displayed a pronounced tendency to | fall, and at one stage were off about Bears asserted that so long as weather and crop conditions | likelihood of the wheat market making | any important headway. Meanwhile, unsettling factors included reports that Argentine wheat which had been shipped to the United States was being resold at Liverpool, and that Canada would continue her wheat holding policy for at least the time being. An interesting development was word from Wichita, Kans., that con- siderable wheat is being cut green to avoid possibility of a wet harvest. It is expected such wheat will ripen in the shock and not be threshed for 10 days yet. Much of today’s selling pressure in Chicago appeared to come from sources Southwest, and was be- lieved to be hedging. There was some selling of corn against purchase of wheat early, but |later on the spreading was reversed. | Oats were responsive to generally good crop advices. Bpecial Dispatch to The Star. TORONTO, Ontario, June 15.—The | grain board legislation now before the Canadian Parliament means, if adopt- | ,,| ed. that the Dominion will shoulder | the marketing end of this $300,000.- 000 Canadian industry. This proposal dwarfs any previous moves toward state intervention in business in| Canada. Canada has already conducted a gre co-operative experiment in wheat m: keting through the wheat pool, which | blew up when the depression hit the | | country. For the last three or four| years the government has been carry- | ing & good-sized corner of the western wheat business. It now proposes to confer upon a board of three members authority @ buy all the wheat and | coarse grain grown west of the head | of the Great Lakes and sell it on the world market. The board would be- come a huge compulsory pool for the | western farmers. For the first time in history, only | one wheat future is being traded in on the Winnipeg Grain Exchange. Ex- change officials are silent as to what their future course will be. (Copyrisht. 1935 by the North American | Newspaper Alllance. Inc. Dividend Changes By the Associated Press.
