FINANCIAL. CURB SHARES GAIN INVIGOROUS RALLY 0Oils, Investment Trusts and Utilities Featured in Brisk Upturn. BY JOHN L. COOLEY, Associated Press Financial Writer. NEW YORK, January 3.—The curb matket closed at the top of another active rally today. Honors of leader- ship went to the oils, which enjoyed the largest upward swing in weeks. Utili- ties advanced, but confined their gains to rather nominal proportions. Indus- trials were relatively quiet, while the in- vestment trust group was uniformly higher. Short covering in the petroleum shares sent Gulf and Humble up 6 points. Standards of Indiana and Kentucky, Cities Service and Vacuum rallied a point or more. Electric Bond & Share turned over in large amounts in the course of the busy two-hour session, closing at 45, where it was up 1%. American Gas & Elec- tric rose 215, Associated Gas “A” 1 and American Superpower and United Light “A” improved fractionally. Aluminum of America held all but a point of a 6'%-point rally. Deere was oneé of the few issues to encounter much profit-taking, losing slightly more than a point. A few other industrials also closed slightly lower. Pennroad was_strong, reflecting the raflroad news. Insull Utilities Invest- ments, American Founders and Gold- man Sachs Trading finished with gains that averaged a point, and there were fair advances in Central States Elec- tric, United Founders and Electric Power Associates.
