SOCIETY. Midwinter Season Opened In Annapolis Social World prodrnm of Entertainments Includes Saturd:y Evening Hop, Luncheons, Dinners and Receptions—Personal and Special Notes. ANNAPOLIS, Md., January 3.—The geturn of the midshipmen from ]elve1 ‘Thursday marked the opening of the | midwinter season. The Saturday eve- ning Hop is bringing many visitors to the city, as it is a regimental hop which all of the three classes can attend, and will take the place of the dance usually given New Year eve. Among the entertainments this week were the luncheon and reception, an annual event, given by Gov. Albert C. Ritchie at the executive mansion. Gov. Ritchie received his guests for luncheon, assisted by Rear Admiral Robison, su- perintendent of the Naval Academy. Mr. and Mrs. Sylvannus Stokes, jr., entertained at a dance New Year eve, in their home on South River, for about 75 guests, among whom were visitors from New York, Washington and War- Tenton, Va. The dance began at 10 o'clock. At midnight supper was served, with dancing after supper. Capt, and Mrs. Charles C. Soule en- tertained a number of guests at dinner Wednesday evening in their home on Franklin street. The guests later went to the dance given by Mr. and Mrs. Stokes at South River. Among those firmnt were Capt. and Mrs. John H. fewton, Capt. and Mrs. William J. Giles, Mrs. M. E. Manly, Mrs. Calvin Bertolete, Comdr. and Mrs. James A. Logan. Comdr. and Mrs. W. E. Hall, Mis. Collins Clemens, Mrs. Emory Cle- ment, Mrs. Marshall Collins and Mr. Worthington Davis, the last three of New York; Mr. Forbes Colhoun, Mrs. Richard Baldwin, Lieut. Comdr. and Mrs. J.
