Dispatch to The Sta BLADENSBURG, Md., January 18.— Mrs. Mary Gordon Bailey, 64 years old, & prominent law enforcement and tem- perance worker, and wife of Judge Al- fred D. Bailey of this place, died last 5 o'clock, while in an ambu- lance on her way to Emergency Hos- ‘Washington, not been in good health for the past few years, but her condition had not been alarming recently. Death was due to heart trouble. After attending a motion picture theater in Washington last night in company with her son and daughter-in- law, Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Bailey of Washington, Mrs. Bailey complained of not feeling well and visited a nearby drug store, where she was given at- tention. When her condition became no better an ambulance was called, her death following shortly after on the way to the hospital. Mrs. Bailey was secretary and was law enforcement and temperance work. She only recently was re-elected presi- dent of the Prince Georges County Women's Christian Temperance Union and last Monday presided at a meeting of the executive board of that organ- ization at her home. At this meeting Mrs. Bailey took a prominent part in outlining plans for a W. C. T. U. cam- paign, having as its object the election of persons in the coming elections pledged to war on vice. Mrs. Bailey wa ssecretary and was prominent in the organization of the Law Enforcement League of Prince Georges County. an active worker in St. Luke's Episco- 1 Church, Bladensburg, for meny ;:IH‘ and had been prominent in the Prince Georges County Federation of Women's Clubs and in the Greater Blad- ensburg District Citizens' Association. At one time Mrs. Bailey was well known as a director of amateur the- atricals. Mrs. Bailey was born in Washington, D. C., July 11, 1866, the daughter of Capt. Gordon, U. S. A.. and Mrs. Gor- don, but had lived in Bladensburg the past 37 years. Capt. Gordon saw serv- ice in the Indian Wars. Besides her husband she leaves & daughter, Miss Virginia Bailey of Bladensburg, and in addition to Gordon Bailey, two sons, Alfred D. Bailey of the Federal Department of Justice and First Lieut, Caleb T. Bailey of the aviation section of the United States Marine Corps. A sister, Miss Elizabeth Gordon, who made her home with Mrs. Bailey, also survives. Funeral services will be held Mon- day morning at 10 o'clock at St. Luke's Church.
