6 AFRICAN 1S SECOND: BEACON HILL THIRD Whichone Takes Chamnagne 5'“ Stakes, With Boojum, Sablemate, Third. By the Associated Press. ELMONT RACE TRMCK, Septem- ber 7.—Over a muddy track, The Nut, racing in the silks of the ‘Warm Stable and perfectly rid- den by the veteran jockey, Mack Garner, scored an impressive “mrier the Lawrence Realization Stakes e today. The Nut picked up 119 pounds, followed the early pace set by Beacon Hill and, when ready, ran into the lead to win easily. R. T. Wilson's African was second and Harry Payne Whitney’s Beacon Hill third. The mile and five furlongs were run in 2:45 3-5. Red Rag won the opening event, making good, but it took her very best efforts to win. Enid was second and Curtsey _third. Sn long shot, led the field to the final 1urlon|, where Red Rag dashed to the front and just lasted to win by half a length from the fast closing Enid. Ruler, racing in the silks of the Fox Catcher Farms, Dupont, scored an easy victory in the Brook Steeplechase, run over the 2!;- mile course, and in doing so created a new track record for the course by stepping it in 4:42, three full seconds faster than the best previous time. The victory of Ruler was a sparkling per- formance, as the race was run over s muddy course. Ruler jumped into a long lead in the first half mile. Maintaining a lon| lend all the way, he won by § lengths. fleld, odds-on favorite, was second, wm: Jolly Roger third. The race was worth $10,500, includ- ing a cup. Stakes to Whichone. H. P. Witney's Whichone accounted for the Champagne Stakes, leading home W. M. Ziegler's Goneaway, with Boojum, coupled with Whichone, third. ‘The Whitney establishment declared to +win with Boojum, but when he could ::t, get up Whichone then went on to n. ‘The race was run down the 63, fur- longs of the Widener course and the ‘Whitney entry was held at 1 to 7. The start was good, Boojum, Maya and Wichone being off in perfect line. Boojum showed the most foot, leading by a comfortable ma , but when they ran into the muddy part of the track Boojum began to back up, as he is no mudder. Then McAtee, on ‘Whichone, rushed his mount up on the outside. Wichone ran into the lead and, drawing away, won by a length. Goneaway beat Boojum half a length for the place. Stanton was fourth ‘The race was worth $5,750. Roodles, favorite at 2-1, was an easy winner of the fourth race, & riong sprint. He won by 10 lengths and ran the distance in 1:26. Bird of Prey beat Your Place a head for the place. Dangerous had no difficulty in annex- ing the purse in sixth race, a mile-and- a-quarter gallop. He ran the route in 2:05 3-5 and won by four lengtrs, while Comet beat Standard Bearer four lengths for the place. Dade Park Results Associated Press. ird amination. It was a race of a mile and a_sixteenth and the fea- ture of the final program of the meet- ing. Highland Captain, carrying the silks of the Justa Farm Stable, was second, and John Bosley, jr.’s Saratof, third. ‘The winner had m ‘be much the best to win as easily as she did. How- ever, nhed l‘o;'a: ‘remgu\nmthh" mi again an r following the pace sef by Highland Captain for almost a mile went into the lead and won breezing. Highland Captain held on well and had no trouble disposing of Saratof for second money. Bucky Harris was a contender for a while, but dropped out of it nearing the stretch. The winner was & warm choice in the betting and paid only $4.10 to win, 'Chase to Long Shot. ‘Barbara Bryn Mawr. a rank outsider, paying $48.30 to win, took the steeple- ehue handicap, which opened the day's rogram. Radeo was second and Evelyn S‘wyer third. The winner was outrun early, but closed an immense gap on the last turn of the field and outlasted Radeo in a drive to the wire. Evelyn Sawyer ha: no trouble taking third money from Beverwyck, the favorite. ‘With decent racing luck Beverwyck probably would have won. He was run- ning in front of the fleld when Racing Star, a riderless horse, crossed into him o;! |th= last turn and knocked him out of it. A crowd of about 10,000 turned out to witness the final program of the meeting. ‘The consistent Domineer just lasted to win the second race at 6 furlongs from Tumult. The latter was closing fast, but couldn’t quite make it. How- ever, he easily placed over Acme. As usual, Domineer was fastest away from the barrier and took a lead of three lengths over Tumult at once. The others were far behind this pair as they the stand for the first time. rning for home, Tumult moved up stoutly and was within a length of the leader as the; straightened out in the stretch. Lang, however, kept Domineer going long enough to get the verdict. Acme came from far back to show. Rockdale Wins Third. Rockdale, starting for the first time during the Maryland meeting, won the third race, a sprint of Lhree-qulnen of a mile, leading all the wa: uncy was second and Little Papoose Rockdale went into a lead of a llule more than a length rounding the first turn and kept his advantage through- out. Regency chased after the winner all the way. The Lure was installed the favorite in the betting, but never could get into contention. ‘Eleusagon, since the Cumberland meeting, galloped to handy victory in the fourth race, a sprint of 6 furlongs for 2-year-olds. The winner broke on top and was never headed. Radha was second and Merry Mack third. They ran in that order al the way. Timonium Results Associated Press. She schooled so encourmngly at Benning that high hopes were held fos her at this game. She may be able to extend the top one. SNIFTER has enough speed in his races on the flat to make him a contender in here. MOONSTRUCK, s Whitney castoft in the stable of F. J. Kearns, might earn a purse for his new owner in the third. Although required to concede plenty of weight, the for- eigner has a clear edge over his com- pany, and it is not likely that he will toss it off. He is too fit an animal to finish behind such as these. IOLLAN, another outlander, rates nearest of the opposition. He has shown himself to be a worthy opponent for the top one, although never able to trim him. He and CHICATIE are closely matched, but IOLLAN has whipped the latter often enough in their recent meetings to rate them as named. FULL DRESS, a son of Man o’ War, had a race for education at Saratoga. | He has worked swiftly and, with that previous race under his belt, he should be ready to show his real speed to the public.
