SOCIETY. Annual Autumn Ball Listed ‘As Tuxedo Park Feature Hailed as One of Most Interesfind Socx'ety Events Scheduled in New York—Season's Gayeties NEW YORK, September 7.—That the annual Auiumn ball will be heid at the ‘fuxedo Club on November 2 was one of the most, interest announce- ments_which has'Been made for society S0 far this season. This will be the first dance of the kind to be held at the new clubhouse in Tuxedo Park and will be more elaborate than any of the similar events ‘in the exclusive colony. Originally it was intended to have the dance on October 26, but there are so many other fetes- scheduled for the same date that the sponsors favored postponement. As the Autumn ball is the outstand- ing af of the year for the debu- tantes a place on the limited invita- tion list is precious beyond comparison to the girl who hopes to g: est of the social heights. Already the selection of those who will attend the ball is under way, and the committee is confronted by a hard task. While the new clubhouse is far more commodious than the old structure, it is not nesrly large enough to accommo-~ date all the girls whose families feel they should be presented at the time. Therefore the social measure will have to be taken with exceptional care this year. Much attention will be bestowed upon recent debutantes who are resi- dents of Tuxedo Park. They are Miss Kitty Wickes, daughter of Mr. and Mrs, Forsyth Wickes, who made her debut at Newport two weeks ago, and Miss Mary Beard, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Anson Cook Beard, who was presented at Southampton recently. Smart Set Showing Interest In Coming Horse Show. One of the most attractive horse shows held on Long Island annually is the Smithson exhibition, which takes place on September 21. This horse show always is marked by a series of entertainments at estates nearby. show will be held on the grounds of the Smithson Club for the first time and will be open to professional ex- hibitors. Heretofore it has always been held on a lot known as the Fifty-acre Field, and the only reason for the change was its nearness to the club- house, which had better facilities for handling the crowd. The chairman of the executive com- mittee is Mrs, John V. S. Bloodgood, M. F. H, who is well known as an expert judge of hunter and jumper ain the high- the Outlined. classes. With her, in the first vear of runuing an opsn show Mrs, B will have Lawrence Smith Butler,. ex- officio; Barent Lefferts, treasurer; Devereux Emmet and R. Lawrence Smith.
