DAWES AND WILBUR TOADORESSPARLEY Jewish Welfare Board Con-i vention Will Unveil Memorial | Tablets This Afternoon. Vice President Dawes and Secretary of the Navy Wilbur will address the Jewish Welfare Board today at the | ¥ewish Community Center, Sixteenth aad Q streets. Neveral hundred’ delegates, repre- | sentatives of centers and Y. M. H. As | and kindred organizations, will attend | the conclave, called to discuss problems | in_connection with the center move- | ment and the care of service men and | disabled veterans of the Jewish faith. | The Jewish Welfare Board, organized | in 1917, worked in_co-ordination with | the Red Cross, Y. M. C. A. and other | relief agencies in caring for service men | - both here and abroad. | Since the war the Welfare Board has helped thousands of disabled veterans to obtain compensation from the Gov- | ernment. In the last two years it has | aided the Government to settle more than 2,000 Russian claims, involving nearly $5,000,000. Aided Center Here. In addition, the Welfare Board has taken the leadership in the Jewish Cen- ter movement and it was largely through its encouragement and finan- | cial assistance that Washington Jews erected the $500,000 Jewish Center on Sixteenth street several years ago. A number of delegates registered last night and an informal reception was held for them at the Center. Others will register this morning before 10 o'clock, when the first session starts. Official welcome will be extended by Harry King, first president of the local chapter. The business of the conven- tion will then get under way with an address by Judge Irving Lehman, pres- ident of the Jewish Welfare Board. The rest of the morning session will be devoted to reports by Dr. Cyrus Adler, chairman of the Army and Navy com- mittee of the board, Harry Glucksman, executive director; Benjamin J. Gut- tenweiser. treasurer, and Leon J. Ober- mayver. chairman of the constitution committee. After the luncheon the business ses- sion will be opened with an address by Secretary of the Navy Wilbur, who will speak on the work of the Welfare Board among the service men. Follow- ing the Secretary’s address, reports will be read by the heads of the several Y. M. H. A. Federations. Felix Fuld will report on the growth of the Y. M. H. A. work in New Jer- sey: Bernard B. Given and M. Maldwin Fertig, on the New York Federations; Jacob L. Wiseman on New England, Samuel Druck on Pennsylvania, and Henry Weinberg on the Middle Atlantic States Federation, embracing the Dis- trict, Maryland and Virginia. Will Unveil Memorial. The convention will close with a ban- quet, scheduled to start at 6:30 p. m. Maurice D. Rosenberg, chairman of {he local committee which arranged for the convention, will act as toastmaster. Others besides Vice President Dawes who will speak are Louis Marshall, Judge Irving Lehman, Morris Cafritz, Dr. Abram Simon and Mrs. Alexander Wolf. Although the convention = proper closes tonight, many delegates will re- main over until tomorrow for the con- ference of the National Association of Directors of Jewish Centers.
