Spring Fashions Sparkle At Quantico Dance Parties Precede Affair Held In Officers’ Club; Littles Give Attention to Style Show QUANTICO, Va., April 20—Spring, in all its glory, was evidenced at the dance held in the Officers’ Club this evening, when many of the feminine members of this post appeared in new creations modeled at the Red Cross Fashion Show, which was held at the B. O. Q. Thursday. Gen. and Mrs, Officers’ Mess before the dance. Holland M. Smith entertained at dinner at the Lt. Col. and Mrs. Lemuel C. Shepherd were hosts to Lt. Col. and Mrs. Evans O. Ames, Lt. Col. and Mrs. Galen M. Sturgis, Lt. Col. and Mrs. David R. Nimmer, Lt. Col. and Mrs. R. C. Kilmartin, Maj. and Mrs. Stanley Ridderhof, Maj. and Mrs. Harold E. Rosecrans, Maj. and Mrs. Lester A. Dessez, Maj. and Mrs. Howard Fellows of Washington and Capt. and Mrs. Clovis Coffman at cocktails in their quarters. Later the party went to the club for dinner and dancing. Capt. and Mrs. Ronald D. Salmon followed tiis same pattern in entertaining their guests. Cocktails in the reception room of the club preceded the dinner party for 18 guests given by Capt. and Mrs. Walter I. Jordan. Capt. and Mrs. Homer L. Litzenberg entertained at dinner in their quarters for their guests before joining the dancers at the Officers’ Club. Earlier in the day a delightful cocktail party was enjoyed by 225 guests of Capt. and Mrs. Wilbur J. F. Riley in the Officers’ Mess. Gay+% spring flowers decorated the tables. Capt. and Mrs. J. S. E. Young also were hosts at cocktails, enter- taining in their quarters. Maj. Gen. Holcomb Is Luncheon Guest. Maj. Gen. Thomas Holcomb, com- mandant of the Marine Corps, was the guest at luncheon Monday of Brig. Gen. and Mrs. P. H. Torrey. Gen. Holcomb made his first official visit to the new Marine Corps Schools Building in Quantico Mon- day. Since the return Monday of the commanding general and Mrs. Louis McCarty Little from Aiken, S. C., most of their attention has been centered on the War Relief Unit's style show, but they took time out for two purely social occasions. They had dinner in Washington this eve- ning with Mr. and Mrs. Stanley Woodward, who have been their friends since a Haitian tour several years ago and Tuesday Gen. and Mrs. Little took a party to the circus in Washington for the performance given as a benefit for the Children’s Hospital. One of the high lights of the week was the style show given Thursday afternoon in BOQ. Proceeds from the style show will go to increase the fund needed to buy supplies for Red Cross work carried on by the War Relief Unit in Quantico. Mrs. Bailey Honors Sister at Luncheon. Mrs. C. T. Bailey entertained at | luncheon yesterday at the officers’ mess in honor of her sister, Mrs. D D. Weinert, who is visiting in Quantico for a few weeks. Among the other guests were Mrs. D. L. Cloud, Mrs. Field Harris, Mrs, V. M. Guymon, Mrs. J. N. Smith, Mrs. Vernon Lowry, Mrs. W. J. Whaling, Mrs. J. C. Burger, Mrs. P. O. Parma- lee and Mrs. W. L. McKittrick of ‘Washington. Mrs. Lucian W. Plans for Quantico’s Sixth Annual Horse Show, under the Mounted Sports Committee of the officers’ mess, are going forward briskly in order to have the various events lined up for May 4. The show will be an intropost competition, with no visiting teams participating. Capt. M. L. Curry is in charge of arrangements. WENATCHEE, Wash—Something | || like salt shakers helped keep moun- tain highways open near here this winter. A device which mixed 40 pounds of salt with each cubic foot of sand was built and attached to motor truck push plows. The State highway department used 18 of the machines.
