Washington's 88th traffic fatality this year was recorded today when Coroner A. Magruder MacDonald held that the death yesterday of Patrick Higgins, 69, was due to injuries which he suffered in an automobile accident nearly 11 months ago. ‘There were 71 deaths at this date last year. Mr. Higgins died at his home, 598 Park road N.W. He was hurt in an accident at Park road and Georgis avenue N.W. on December 26, 1936. ‘The coroner performed an autopsy. Allen E. Hill, 7, colored, of R. F. D. 1, Alexandria, Va., died early today in Alexandria Hospital of injuries re- ceived when struck by an automobile late yesterday on the Washington- Richmond highway. Alfred Lochmer, 39, of Baltimore, said by police to have driven the car, was released under $500 bond pending an inquest. Four persons were injured severely in overnight traffic accidents in Wash- ington. Mildred Volkman, 22, of 3601 Con- necticut avenue N.W., struck by a hit-run driver in the 1800 block on Calvert street N.W. was taken to Emergency Hospital with head lacera- tions. Struck by an automobile in the 900 block of Rhode Island avenue N.E, Mrs. William T. Nebel, 20, of Colmar Manor, Md., was in Sibley Hospital with a fractured collar bone and a possible skull fracture. Police said the car was driven by T. C. Norman, col- ored, of 1337 Delaware avenue S.W. He was not held. Morris E. Anglin, 34, Hyattsville (Md.) newspaper editor, was driving in the 2500 block on Rhode Island avenue N.E. last night when he collided with the rear of a street car which had stopped to take on passengers. After treatment at Sibley Hospital for a cut face, he was discharged, but later was returned by his physician, who said Mr. Anglin was suffering internal in- juries, William H. Kearns, 73, of 1429 Maryland avenue N.E. was crossing Benning road in the 1500 block when struck by an automobile. He was taken to Casualty Hospital with in- juries to the back and head. Police listed the driver as Ernest G. McLana- han, 18, of Seat Pleasant, Md. 'STUDEBAKER URGES NEGRO EDUCATION Commissioner Announces Radio Program to Be Sponsored November 10.
