A—-20 FASTER PAGE SET AT COTTON MILLS Consumption of Staple Goes to Highest Level Since June, 1933, Peak. B7 the Associated Press. Cotton consumed during December was reported by the Census Bureau today to have been 692,921 bales of lint and 61,936 of linters, compared with 626,695 and 63,767 during No- wvember, 1936, and 499,773 and 54,818 during December, 1935. The December consumption was the highest monthly total since June, 1933, when mills were rushing work because N. R. A. code regulations were to become effective. It also was the third largest on record, being sur- passed only by June, 1933, with 697,- 261 bales, and March, 1927, with 693,- 081 bales. Cotton on hand December 31 was Teported held as follows: In consuming establishments 2,001,- 378 bales of lint and 239,176 of linters, compared with 1,792,250 and 193,190 on November 30 last year, and 1431, $EY 249 and 186,917 on December 31 a | year ago. In public storage and at compresses 9,788,326 bales of lint and 67,499 of linters, compared with 8,418,408 and 54,762 on November 30 last year, and 8,389,086 and 58,523 on December 31 & year ago. December imports totaled 15,909 bales, compared with 8.945 in Novem- ber last year, and 12,738 in Decem- ber a year ago. Exports for December totaled 593,- 860 bales of lint and 19,668 of linters, | compared with 689,815 and 27,461 in November last year, and 886,035 and 80,944 in December a year ago. NEW YORK, Janusry 14.—United Corp., utility investing company, today reported for the year ended December 31 net profit afler provision for un- distributed earnings of $10,269,858, equal to 19 cents a share on the com- mon stock. This compares with $9,049,836, or 11 cents a share in 1935. The report disclosed there were 20,958 holders of $3 cumulative pre- ferred stock and 94,141 common stock holders as of December 31.
