NEW YORK, November 5.—Leading producers have advanced the price of refined sugar, effective at the close of business today, to a 4.65-cent a pound basis from the present 4.50- cent level. Freeport Texas Co. Freeport Texas Co. reported net in- come for the quarter ended September $il30 of $405,637, equal to 60 cents a share, compared with $334,321, or 40 cents a share, for the third quarter of 1935. The company produces sulphur in Texas and Louisiana. Otis Steel Co. Otis Steel Co., Cleveland, reported net income of $495,110 for the quar- ter ended September 30, equal to 35 cents a common share, compared with net loss of $27,367 in the like quarter of 1935. There are 1,933,000 common shares outstanding. NEW YORK, November 5.—Lead and export copper jumped ahead to new post-depression price levels today in response to a continued demand that for 16 consecutive weeks has depleted visible stocks of the Base metals. Two leading lead producers, today | raised prices to the highest point since | December. 1930. It was the fourth rise in less than two weeks, this time | $2 a ton. The new price at New York was 5.00 cents a pound. Export copper was sold at from 10.70 cents a pound up to 10.75 cents, the peak since March, 1931. Yesterday | sales ranged at from 10.60 cents to 110.725 cents. Trade advices from Lon- don said the price of electrolytic today went to the equivalent of 10.76 cents {a pound for delivery at European base ports. Zinc and tin shared in the heavy | demand for copper and - lead, but prices were unchanged. Traders pre- dicted an early advance, however, should requirements continue on the present scale. Lead stocks in the United States October 1 were 293,596 tons, the Amer- ican Bureau of Metal Statistics re- | ported. September 1 stocks totaled 310,398 tons.
