JACKSON, Ohio, November 5—To ¥.year-old Betty McGhee, the tabula- tion of election returns means that she may walk again. Her toddling baby feet led her five years ago into a heap of smoldering ashes left by road workers in the gar- den of her home. The burns left her crippled. Money for Surgery. Township voters approved over- whelmingly a $14,000 bond issue to pay off a court judgment in the little girl's favor and to provide money for surgery that may save her from life as a hopeless cripple. Betty's feet were burned almost off. She was awarded damages years ago, but the township had no money to pay. Finally the bond vote was decided upon as the only way out. Specifically, Ohio’s most odd elec- tion issue is a levy that raises the tax rate on each property owner.in the township approximately one-third of a cent. Father Now Dead. William Wallace Weitlauf, alias ‘Willlam Gohlson, 25, was returned to Washington from Michigan last night to stand trial on a charge of robbing William J. Bell, proprietor of a paperhanging establishment at Seventh and K streets, of $13,030 in July, 1934. Weitlauf was traced to Detroit and arrested. He was on parole from the Michigan State Penitentiary at Jack- son and was returned there to com- plete a 2-to-14-year term for forgery. He was turned over to Detective Sergt. James J. Whitman, 86, prominent landowner and business man, who cied at his home, near here, yesterday, will be held at the home tomorrow afternoon at 2 o'clock.
