COURT T0 RECENE BABY DERBY PLEAS Six Toronto Mothers Will Face Judge Tomorrow in Prize Claims. By the Assoclated Press. TORONTO, November 5.—Six To- ronto mothers will ask an elderly On- tario justice tomorrow what the chances are of getting paid for their 10 years of childbearing. Some of them have been living on eharity, even to the point of charity hospitalization during their almost annual confinements. None has a husband earning anywhere near enough money to fall within the in- come tax brackets. All have made claims for the money Charles V. Millar bequeathed to en- courage childbearing, and all are won- dering how much their babies are worth. It depends upon what Mr. Justice Middleton decides. 3 Three Possible Rulings. If he should rule that the six mothers, each claiming nine eligible offspring, are entitled to divide the $500,000 bequest, that would make each child worth approximately $9,250 to its mother. The justice also might rule that “Mercy Death” G__STAR, Bill Facing Debate in House of Lords BY the Associated Press. LONDON, November 5.—The tradi- tion-steeped House of Lords faced today the necessity of answering one of the most extraordinary questions in its long history: Has the sufferer of an incurable ail- ment the right to select death to escape lingering pain? The question was contained in a “mercy death” bill introduced in Parliament yesterday to authorize medical men to kill hopeless patients who want to die. Lord Ponsonby, its sponsor, thus climaxed a year's cam- paign by many medical and church leaders for euthanasia, “easy death.” Ponsonby will move the second read- ing of the bill December 1 and it will become a debatable issue then. The measure now is in the hands of the printer. Its author refused to discuss it except to say it provides for the death of patients whose ailments are diagnosed incurable, “at their own re- quest” and “with proper safeguards.” He explained he introduced the bill early in the new session of Parliament so0 that it would be discussed while the memory of the late Lord Moynihan, noted physician and euthanasia advo- cate, still was fresh before the people. ‘The measure, which has created widespread interest and discussion throughout England, was backed by the voluntary Euthanasia Legalization Society, which includes many physi- cians. Lord Moynihan, who died last Sep- tember 8, had planned to introduce the | bill himself as president of the society. RERrte il S50 American Plan Adopted. Speaking of a cross-town bus line, a matter which has engaged the attention of the association for several years, he said the company had no definite plans at present for such a line. A cross-town line would lose money for the company, he stated, because part of it would have to run through Rock Creek Park, where no passen- gers could be picked up. It has been proposed, he added, that the Nine- teenth street loop bus extend its run through the park along Klingle road SWIM for HEALTH ADULTS, 40c CHILDREN, 25¢ Includes Towel and Locker INSTRUCTION 6 Lessons, $5.00 Individual Instruction LILLIAN CANNON. Aircraft service between Great Britain and Australia will be greatly expanded next year, with the ultimate ng two round trips ralian service will be extended to New Zealand eventually. Improvements to become effective in 2937 will speed up time schedules, es- pecially those applying to first-class mail. Conversations are going on be- tween British and Australian authori- ties to settle disputed points. Elimina- tion of surcharges on mail has been proposed by the British, but Australia objects on the ground that the sur- charges provide revenues that can be used to subsidize operating companies n the commonwealth.
