THE SUNDAY STAR, WASHINGTON, D. C, OCTOBER 4, 1936—PART ONE. SEARCHERS FAIL ~[micrssset now would be to wait for some further development. Slain DEATH OF BRIDE-ELECT PUZZLES POLICE. POLIGE STUNPED BY BRIDE'S DEATH Slaying of Kentucky Woman Due to Be Wed Wednesday Proves Baffling. BY the Associated Press. COVINGTON, Ky., October 3.— Police seeking the slayer of Miss Frances Brady, attractive 30-year-old flancee of a railroad passenger agent, sought futilely tonight for an ac- ceptable motive. Efforts were continued on locating | two missing keys to a peculiar lock on the front door of the Brady home. Miss Brady'’s flance, John J. ©O'Donnell, remained in seclusion after announcing he would post a reward for the apprehension of the killer of the woman, to whom he planned to be married next Wed- nesday. “T can't imagine such a thing as this happening,” he said. “I am stunned.” Coroner is Baffled. Coroner James P. Riffe, who called the slaying “one of the most bafling murders in the police annals of Covington,” said he would hold an in- quest Tuesday or Wednesday. Chief of Police John Puthoff ad- mitted police had obtained little in- formation of value. “We've traced every possible clue,” he said, “but we haven't got much out of any of them. We aren’t even sure whether it was a man or a woman who shot Miss Brady. No one could give us a description, although the sisters said the shadow they glimpsed running to the rear of the house looked like a man.” Miss Brady was shot as ghe stepped through the front door shortly before 1 am. Friday. She had returned from a bridal “shower” and a mid- night mass with her sisters, Misses Elsaline and Margaret Brady, and turned on the light before stepping inside. Both sisters, suffering from shock, remained under care of a phy- | sician. Gifts Are Untouched. | “It doesn't look like burglary,” | continued the chief. “The wedding | gifts were on the table and dresser drawers had been pulled out but nothing was disturbed. “We've questioned O'Donnell and | every one in the neighborhood but FRANCES BRADY. The 30-yar-old Covington, Ky., girl was shot to death in the doorway of her home, a few feet from a table pzled high with gifts for her wed- ding, scheduled next Wednes- day. She was returning home from a “shower” when slain. —Copyright, A. P. Wirephoto. Don’t Miss This Unusual TOLOGATE YOUTH Boy, 9, Missing for Week as Boy Scouts and Police Comb Woods. By the Associated Press. ROCHESTER, N. Y., October 3.— A stray, half-grown black kitten was the only find today of more than 250 Boy Scouts, police and other searchers who combed ravines, woods, swamps and meadows of the northwestern section of the city and outskirts in a fruitless search for blond 9-year-old Charles Brennan, missing since last Sunday afternoon. And as the boys, tired, covered with burdocks and cockleburrs, and many of them with feet wet from swamp water, ended the hunt at nightfall, police confessed themselves even more baffled than before at the boy's dis- appearance. “I felt pretty sure this morning No further search would be made, he indicated, since he said he believed the territory had been thoroughly covered by the scouts today. Although asserting that police would not abandon the hunt for the missing boy, Capt. McLaughlin said he he- lieved the only thing they could do ‘00'0‘0000:.0:.0‘0:::.““000% ;"erfe::; §: DIAMONDS § Alro complete line of standard an American made watches iho at the friendly store— youre always greeted with IoIe—With Ho obligation (o buy.
