BIGN.R. A PARLEY BERRY'S PROPOSAL Co-ordinator Testing Senti- ment on Business-Labor Co-operation Plan. By the Associated Press. The possibility that thousands of labor and business leaders may be in- vited to & glant meeting arose today as Maj. George L. Berry, N R. A. co- ordinator of business co-operation, acted to sound out sentiment on N. R. A's future. Berry, busily engaged in organizing his staff and making plans, said he was moving “as fast as the Lord will let me” in trying to bring business ard labor together. Views Are Requested. One plan Berry has in mind is to send a letter to every industry asking | for its views on a conferenc> here. If the response is favorable, the meeting may be similar to the industrial con- ference held early in 1934 in the hey- day of N. R. A, but made even larger by the addition of labor leaders. N. R. A. officials say that at pres- ent they find divergent views among business men as to the need of a new N. R. A, law and whether they would attend in large numbers is a matter of conjecture. Some believed it doubt- ful that the larger industries, such as automobiles and steel, would be inter- ested. Berry's efforts to promote industrial co-operation appeared today to have smoothed over, temporarily, at least, troubles that threatened to break out because of his appointment to what might be considered a dominant posi- tion in N. R. A, | Centering Upon Task. | Berry apparently is centering on | the task to which he was assigned by President Roosevelt before the latter left for the West Coast rather than on N. R. A. administration. Three key men resigned about the same time Berry was named, and al- though these resignations were said to have been planned in advance of his appointment, some attributed the sud- den departures partly to the confusion which arose through lack of clarity in defining Berry’s duties. —_—_— DAHLIA GARDEN OPEN Thousands of Blooms to Be Seen at Week End Exhibit. ' Refusing Attorney, Man Is Convicted Of Relief Chiseling By the Associated Press. NEWARK, N. J, October 4— Frederick Keith, charged with re- lief chiseling, went on trial before Common Pleas Judge Brennan. Keith beamed, thinking he had won. “No lawyer could possibly help you with such a poor defense,” the court added. “I find you guilty and will continue you on parole for sentence October 15.” COL.
