Equilibrium was restored yesterday following a little nervousness at the opening, and this evidence of quick rallying power served to bolster in- vestment support in all sections of the list, including the recently hard- pressed foreign issues. U. S. Governments continued the upturn which got started late in the previous session. Several of the Treasuries found buyers !5 of a point above Thursday’s closins levels. Italian obligations made substan- tial recoveries in spite of the reports of actual conflict in Ethiopia. The government 7s rose half a point to 53 and gains ran from 1 to more than 2 points in Milan City 6'2s and certain of the industrial loans. French Tl dropped back 113, out the decline ap- peared to be the result of a thin mar- ket. October 4.—The Asso- clated Press seasonally adjusted week- 1y index of {reight carloadings. based on Low roads announced today that loadings of revenue freight for the week ended September 28 were 630,771 cars, a de- crease of 76,873, as with the previous week, 15313 below 1934 and 38,415 below 1933. Miscellaneous freight was 270,315 cars, decrease 475 below the preceding week, increase 25,805 above 1934 and 32,332 above 1933. Less than carlot merchandise, 167,- 228 cars; increase, 598 above the pre- ceding week, 2,618 above 1934, but a decrease of 8,559 below 1833. Coal, 62,897 cars; decrease, 70,237 below the preceding week, 60,757 below 1934 and 69,749 below 1933. Grain and grain products, 39,196 cars, decrease, 3,356 below the preced- ing week: increase, 6,582 above 1934 | and 7,638 above 1933.
