An increase of $2,827,000,000 in de- posits of weekly reporting member banks of the Federal Reserve System since the first of the year is revealed in the latest condition statement of these banks, issued by the Reserve Board. Inasmuch as these institutions rep- resent approximately 45 per cent of the deposits of all commercial banks of the country, the net increase in deposits of all banks should be in the neigh- borhood of $6,300,000,000 in the same period, should the same ratio of gain prevail. The latest statement of reporting member banks, which comprise in- total deposits of $18,130,000,000 as of the close of business December 12 compared with $15,303,000,000 last January 3. ‘These figures, which are exclusive of Government deposits, showed that net demand climbed $2,837,000,000 in the clining by $10,000,000.
