THE EVENING STAR, WASHINGTON, D. C, TUESDAY, DECEMBER 18, 1934 T e wepr— SSE B o koo directly to The Men's Store in 28 Applications Out for Enroll- ment in Public Affairs Course. Application blanks for the first group of students to come to Wash- ington under auspices of the National Institution of Public Affairs for a close-up study of the Government in action were sent out today, it was an- nounced by Otis T. Wingo, jr., execu- tive secretary. Close to 1,200 graduate and under- graduate students already have ap- plied to the institution for enroll- ment, but their selection will not be made until the formal blanks are filed. The students, approved by both the institution and their own college au- thorities, will spend three months in | the Capital under a scholarship plan set up since last Spring. The scholar- ships are divided into three classes— one, under which the winners will pay $10 per month for the three months’ course; another, the winners of which will receive training without charge; and a small group of special scholar- ships, under which the winners will yeceive training free of cost plus transportation and an allowance on their room and board during their stay in Washington. Plans Short Courses. In addition, the institution plans a series of special short courses for col- lege groups desiring to visit the Capi- tal for one or two weeks. ‘The courses under the scholarships will be worked out individually by the student, the institution and the par- | ticular Government department in which the work is to be done. The institution also will make arrange- ments for special research for stu- dents working on theses and will make all the necessary arrangements to have source material available. Qualifications for the scholarships include a strong scholastic record, a demonstrated interest in government and politics, and qualities of character and ability, especially those having to “ v | The Chesterfield the suggestion of Secretary of Com- merce Daniel C.
