So say the jewelers, the shoe stores and specialty shops selling gold en- sembles of sandals and purses, and the beauty shops, which insist that gold eye-shadows and lashes are the style in smart salons. The mere male has gone after gold in a big way this year, according to sellers of men’s jewelry. They report that the increased use of formal wear has sent the high school freshman and his grandfather after gold collar pins, cuff links, tie pins and clasps, pearl studs and chains. Costume jewelry continues to sup- ply the bulk of business, with an increasing demand for necklaces and bracelets to match. Although most of these sales are below $10, the last few days have brought a brisk de- mand for expensive gold jewelry, es- pecially expert copies of old-fashioned pieces. There is an insistent call for clips for hat and gown decora- tions and for necklaces. Christmas table settings are un- usually effective this year. The gleaming silver, the snowy white linen, dull-gold china and crystal glassware are framed with Yuletide decorations. The younger set seems to have caught the jeweler's eye, for there are low-priced items mixed wit hthe top- notchers and in every instance the display is arranged to attract youth— the stores’ future customers. December is the biggest jewelry month of the year and sales this month are far ahead of November business, which ranged from 10 to 333 per cent better than the same 1933 month. Hence the manufac- turers of novelty jewelry, when per- mittéd by the code, have been work- ing overtime. By the Associated Press CHICAGO, December 18.—Two er- rors disturbed the grain market today, and after erratic price fluctuations, wheat firmed near the close of the session. Early strength following revision of yesterday's erroneous domestic wheat visible supply figures gave way under scattered liquidation. Tie subsequent decline in prices reached the extreme when a transmission error resulted in posting of a close for December wheat at Liverpool 2 pence under the pre- vious finish. This was corrected to show the price actually was un- changed. Chicago wheat finished unchanged to 3 cent higher, compared with yesterday's close, May, 99'z-5g, and corn was !5 lower to % up, May, 87%- 7s.
