A warm welcome to Washington was extended to Mrs. Lulu Wimberly of Mississippi, who will act as the prin- cipal secretary of Senator 'Theodore G. Bilbo, at a luncheon given yesterday at the Madrillon by Miss Frances Maurine Irwin. The guests included & number of well-known business and professional women of the Capital. Among the guests were Miss Adelia Stewart, chief of the examining di- vision of the Treasury Department; Miss Helen Kittler, who is the only woman bank examiner in thq United States; Miss Beatrice Clephar@ attor- ney and mayor of Chevy Chace, Md.; Miss Hilda Eakes, also secretary to Senator Bilbo: Miss Martha McCloud of the publicity staff of the Agricul- tural Department; Miss Una Franklin, newspaper woman; Mrs. Frances Finkes, Miss Georgie Homsher of Fort Wayne, Ind.; Mrs. Jack Bennet of Macon, Ga., and Miss Genevieve Hen- dricks, the interior decorator. The luncheon table was decorated with a Christmas chimney, at the foot of which was piled gifts for the guests. The presents were both amusing and highly individual. Mrs. Wimberly received a book of cartoons executed by Miss Irwin and entitled, “Men You Will Meet in Washington,” the subjects ranging from the ever-present dancing man to high-and-mighty statesmen. The vol- ume was bound in white and gold. Miss Eakes, who will be Mrs. Wim- berly’s chief aide, was presented with a traffic whistle, in deference to her expressed fears of the jam-packed Washington traffic. Other presents, too, were cleverly adapted to each recipient. Thus Miss Hendricks was presented with a set of mid-Victorian doll fur- niture in a design calculated to horrify any interior decorator. Miss McCloud was given a little hatchet “to cut down the trees in case the Agricultural De- partment plants too many.” In tribute to Mrs. Wimberly and her home State of Mississippi, the Madril- lon Orchestra played “Old Man River” as she entered.
