Chester, 88-year-old retired | naval officer, who died last night, will be buried in Arlington National Ceme- tery after a Washington funeral in charge of the Navy Department. | funeral will be held tomorrow morning at St. John's Episcopal Church. | The rear admiral, who was born i New London, Conn., February 2. 1844, was the principal in the “Chester con- | cession” affair in the Near East, in- volving ofl and rail developments by American capitdl in the Ottoman em- pire. The concessions, which at one time threatened international compli- cations, were valued at $2,000,000,000. For 15 years Admiral Chester, who retired in 1906 after 47 years service. was occupied with the task of estab- lishing the open door for American trade in Western Asia. His naval career included participa- tion in the Battle of Mobile Bay and extended through a number of posts, | including the high command of the South Atlantic Squadron in 1897-99. He was placed on the retired list in 1906, after 47 years’ active naval service. Later, he returned for five years' active duty in the Navy. He is survived by two sons, Arthur T. Chester and Colby M. In an effort to capture him last November an expeditionary force, having machine guns, armored | cars and police cars, was sent out. Torres was wounded in a recent en- counter with gendarmes, but escaped into the bush. A search of the bush revealed a hidden grotto containing rifles, revolvers and ammunition. The bandit was found in a ditch nearby. He had been shot in the head and sur- rendered without resistance. Well Folks:— Stop, look and listen! Here's the real works. TOMORROW—Friday Only!
