SEES BROADCASTING ON EXALTED PLANE ©. H. Caldwell Cites Rockefeller $250,000,000 “Radio City” as Basis for His Prediction. Chain broadcasting lifted from the | realm of commercialism and placed | in the sanctified group of “endowed institutions” is envisioned by former Federal Radio Commissioner O. H. Caldwell. This, the engineer-editor believes, is the logical sequel to the $250,000,000 “radio city” project in New York, to be financed by John D. Rockefeller, jr., and in which the Radio Corporation of America interests are collaborating. Mr. Caldwell would have the radio industry step out of broadcasting, into which it was thrust, 80 that broadcasting quality might be established at a high level and a greater demand for the apparatus they manu- factured thus created. Mr. Caldwell, in an editorial in the current issue of one of the magazines he edits, expresses the hope that when the new Rockefeller radio city is in operation the R. C. A. interests will “step aside” and place broadcasting in the hands of a representative and self- perpetuating board of trustees, to be administered solely in the public in- terest without any radio-industry in- fluence whatever. It would solve all of the vexing problems of program pro- duction, he predicts.
