CURB SHARES DROP INSALE BARRAGE Record Saturday Session for Year Witnesses General Slash in Values. BY JOHN L. COOLEY, Associated Press Financial Writer. NEW YORK, May 3.—Enormous Hquidation of curb stocks carried prices of leading issues down 2 to 10 points in a stormy two-hour trading session today. Sales aggregated 1,537,100 shares, the largest of the year, and the heavy volume had pushed the ticker 42 minutes behind the market at_the close. ‘The pressure was insistent from the opening gong, when several large blocks ‘were offered at sharp concessions from yesterday's closing prices. Bear traders pursued their advantage as resistance proved weak and continued to pound away, especially at the utilities. Cov- ering operations toward the close were of slight consequence. Electric Bond & Share, opening vmh & 16,900-share block at 102} m slumped with few attempts ' n iy and closed at 957, off 9% on the day. Cities Service was another target for the short interest. The h-un-t transaction was & block of 40,200 shares at 37's, nearly a point lower, but the decline from the open- ing level was steady and a final drive in the last quarter hour hammered the prlce down to 30, & net loss of 7}z points. American Superpower and Niagara- Hudson Power displayed moderate re- sistance in the earlier dealings, but lkewise succumbed to the final raid, falling 4'4 and 115, respectively. Amer- ican Gas & Electric lost 5, Middle West Dtilitles, 335; United Light & Power A, 2%, and United Gas, 3!g. United Pow- er & Light was firmer, yielding only half a point net. Ofls and industrials were heavy. In- vestment trust stocks were sold in large volume as traders sought funds for impaired margin accounts on this market, as well as on the big board. Goldman Sachs Trading and United Founders broke 2 to 3 points, the latter making a new 1930 low. RECORD DATE FIXES RIGHTS ON VOTING Minnesota Court Rules in Case Similar to Steel Merger Dispute. ‘The Supreme Court of the State of esota has recently handed down 8 decision in the case of Dennistoun V. Davis, which is particularly interesting in that it involves questions similar to those raised in the recent Bethlehem- ‘Youngstown merger dispute, involvin the right of persons who are recor holders, but who had sold their shares prior to the meeting, to vote against the objection of the purchasers of the shares in_question. ‘The case also covers a second ques- tion involved in the Bethlehem-Youngs- town merger dispute, namely, the right of ;mchum of stock subsequent to the date to vote proxies which they have obtained from the holder of record. The court discussed the general right | to vote of & record holder who has sold his shares. It was decided that under the Minnesota statutes a “stockholder” ‘who has sold his shares is not entitled ;:‘ ;ow even though he remain & record ler. —— YOUNGSTOWN STOCK BARRED FROM VOTING BY the Associated Press. ‘YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio, May 3.—Off-| elals of Youngstown Sheet & Tube Co. said today that their action in suspend- ing from transfer all stocks whose hold- admndtd cash Ialmwnnecllon '}fll: company's pending merger witl Bethlehem Steel Corporation will mean that such stock is prohibited from vot- ing and from drawing dividends. Observers saw two posslhllltlea if this statement holds good. One is that at & meeting of directors called for Mon- day directors representing the Cyrus S, Eaton interests may be ousted. Eaton is leader of the anti-merger forces. At 8 recent directors’ meeting four members, including Eaton himself, were elected to represent his interests. ‘The other question is the ability or ess of merger opponents to con- fi.nue & long legal battle while millions NEW YORK, May 3.—The following is today’s summary of important corp- oration news prepared by Standard Statistics Co., Inc, New York, for. the Assoclated Press.
