H. PICKETT. ASTER SUNDAY in Washington takes on a significance and E glamour unknown in any other city of the country and boasts an Easter parade second to none. 8carcely less interesting than the members of the diplomatic corps, cabinet members and others attending the various churches is the vast crowd of strangers who assemble about the church doors to see them alight from their cars and enter or leave the edifices. St. Matthew’s Church and St. Paul’s have for years drawn such crowds to catch a glimpse of Ambassadors and Ministers and other members of the corps, while St. John’s Church, on Lafayette Square, has always been a meeting place for sightseers, though not in some years has a President regularly attended there. belated social program will be resumed this week, with many H I interesting and important events taking place. While White House social affairs are in abeyance for the present, Mrs. Hoover will resume a well arranged Spring program whenever it is advisable; and in the meantime much of the social limelight centers about the Vice President, Mr. Curtis, and his official hostess, Mrs. Gann. While Mr. and Mrs. Gann have slipped away to Virginia Beach for an Easter Sunday outing at the Chevalier—such an outing as they often take alone—the Vice President is remaining in the Capital. - MUSIC holds a paramount place in the social scheme of this week, and it is the hope of the promoters of the Washington Opera Association, which is sponsoring the Metropolitan Opera Company performances Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, that the First Lad of the Land, who has been keenly interested in the movement, be able to attend and have guests with her in the presidential box Headed by Mrs. Bacon, many pledges have been given by society women to allow no other social events to interfere with their attend- ing the opera, and many early dinner parties and late supper parties have been arranged for those days. THIRE is music everywhere, and the Vice President, Mr. Curtis, will be treated to an unusually interesting program when, fol- lowing the dinner which Senator and Mrs. Felix Herbert will give for him Tuesday night, the four gifted children of the hosts will give a program. These Young musicians will present the entire program at the Congressional Club Friday afternoon, and the friends of their erenu wl‘islilt hear them on many other occasions during their Easter oliday visit. f AY evening the Ambassador of Poland, Mr. Tytus Filipowicz, will treat his dinner guests to a rare program presented by noted Polish musicians, the Vice President being his‘guest of honor. April 30 the Speaker and Mrs. Longworth will enjoy a similar treat at the Polish embassy. £ THE charge d’affaires of Persia, M. Hashem Nourzad, will celebrate the anniversary of the coronation of his majesty Reza Shah Tahlazi to the throne in truly festive manner, giving a supper dance at the legation Thursday evening. The Princeton Musical Club will have a laris following Tuesday night at the Mayflower, when the alumni of the District will be sponsors.
