NEW YORK, April 11.—Utilitles and investment companies featured today's two-sided curb market, which was marked by a big bulge in volume in the second hour and a gradual tapering thereafter. ‘The record high prices reached by curb stocks yesterday did not deter traders from bidding up more than twoscore issues to new high levels to- day, with utilities and investment com- panies the chief beneficiaries. Electric Bond & Share held around 112 until midday, when it reacted some- what. Cities Scrvice, in the miscella- neous oils, held close to the 42 level. American Light & Traction old and new, American Superpower, Consoli- dated Gas of Baltimore, Electric Power Associates A and common, Hydroelec- tric Securities and United Light & f:wer A rose to record high levels for e year. Marine Midland Corporation was the first of the holding companies to move into new high ground. It was followed by _Tri-Continental warrants, Corroon & Reynolds and Aeronautical Industries. On the belief that copper cannot much longer be maintained profitably to the producers at the 18-cent level traders sold the red metal shares again today., United Verde Extension, Shat- tuck-Denn Mining, Hudson Bay Mining and Newmont Mining sold off. The olls lagged in the first part of the session despite further advances in the price of crude oil. This was true of Ohio Oll, Standard Oil of Indiana and Vacuum. Humble showed some im- provement and Cosden continued its upswing. Penn-Mexican Fuel, a low= priced stock climbed to a new top. Amusement shares lacked the buoy- ancy of preceding sessions. Fox The- aters A in the forenoon was inclined to heaviness, as was Columbia Pictures Corporation due to the new issue. Duval Sulphur registered a new max- imum quotation by leaping 4 points on the first few sales.
