F. Loree, president of the Delaware & Hudscn, when he surprised the railroad world by submitting a plan for a fifth system. In addition to his 1925 plan, under ‘which six of the carriers now placed m the fifth system would have been unitea with the Delaware & Hudson as the key road, Loree also has proposed an- other plan recently, with his line as the dominating factor. Under the com- mission’s plan, however, the Delaware & Hudson is assigned to the Boston & Maine, & road which Loree sought % acquire in his second plan, and is taken out of the Eastern grouping and placea with the New land systems. Fifth Line Commended. BOLD BANDITS BLOCKED. Three Men Arrested in Attempt to Rob Hotel Cash Box. LONDON, December 21 (#)—Three men, smartly dressed, who attempted to rald the cashbox of the fashionable Savoy Hotel in the Strand late last eve- ning were captured by police despite a desperate struggle. A fourth escaped. ‘The men entered the hotel when it was thronged as usual with dinner and dance guests. They asked the cashier to €| change Canadian notes into English money. The cashier shouted for help when they reached for the cash box and hotel attendants promptly sound- ed police whistles and chased the fleelng raiders. ‘The chase drew an immense crowd and stopped traffic on the Strand. Fireman Dead and Four Hurt in Fayetteville, N. C., Blaze. FAYETTEVILLE, N. C., December 21 (#).—Collapse of a wall during a fire which destroyed a three-story brick store building here early today killed one fireman and injured four others. Luther Horne, 25, volunteer fireman, was buried beneath the crumbling wall and apparently was killed instantly. His my was not recovered until four hours ater. L. M. Burney, Jesse Webb, Sandy Gilchrist and E. L. Strickland, firemen, were slightly injured. All were given hospital treatment, but Burney, whose leg was badly lacerated, was sald to be the most seriously hurt, Chief of Police J. Ross Jones was also slightly injured.
