He had heard Reddy Fox bark and he had realized that Reddy must be very near. But, though he had looked and looked, he hadn’t been able to see Reddy. This didn’t worry him much. Reddy grinned.” “A Rabbit dinner will be worth it. Now, my dear, you run along and hide.” So Mrs. Reddy noiselessly made her way around to the other side of the bramble tangle and hid. S that Peter hadn’t seen her. Reddy got to his feet and without trying to keep out of sight walked over to the bramble tangle. Peter was once more half doz- ing. Reddy barked sharply. Peter saw him then. “I'm going to get you this time!” snarled Reddy Fox, and began to force his way into the bramble tangle. By this time Peter was very wide awake, indeed. For a moment he for- sharp | got his sore leg, but when he took a step with it he was reminded right away of what had happened. He looked out on the bramble tangle on the side opposite to the one from which Reddy was coming. A little way off was an- other bramble tangle. A cowpath led right over past it. He.could see that bramble tangle very plainly. But what he couldn’t see was Mrs. Reddy hiding close to_that path.
