AKOMAC.0FC PLANS PROGRAN Second Annual Civic Celebra- tion to Start Tuesday and End Thursday. A baby parade and contest, a parade of floats and a popularity contest to select a “Miss Takoma” will be features of the second annual civic celebration | of the Takoma Park Chamber of Com- merce Tuesday, Wednesday and Thurs- day. Prizes valued at more than $300} will be awarded. On Tuesday night the decorated floats parade will assemble at 7 o'clock at the Takoma Theater, launching the. fete. At 7:30 p.m. the parade will move | north on Fourth street to Cedar street, | to Carroll street, to Carroll avenue, to! Sherman avenue and disband. The parade will pass in review beforé dis- tinguished guests and _oficials of the Chamber of Commerce. There will be seven bands in the parade, and at this time more than 160 decorated floats have been assigned positions in the parade by Dr. J. W. Dudley, chairman of the parade committee. Graceful Bertha Collars, Commerce, is the donor_of the cup. ‘Wednesday night, a decorated baby car- riage parade will be held at Carroll and Laurel avenues and will pass-in review of the judges, who will be on the stand at Carroll and Willow avenues. A sil- ver cup, donated by Dr. W. A. Shannon, will be awarded the winning carriage. Following the baby parade, a best baby contest will be held at the reviewing stand, and five silver cups, donated by Gordon W. Bonnette, will be awarded the first five best babies, entries re- st-icted to Takoma Park. In addition to the five cups a silver baby spoon will be given each entrant in the decorated | baby carriage parade and in the best | baby contest. Flags to Be Given Library. Following the baby contests, a “black- berry ple” eating contest will be staged. David Feldman will donate prizes. Just before the award in the “Miss Takoma” contest is made Thursday night, there will be a ceremony of presentation of two American flags to the Takoma Park brancn of the Public Library, by Dr. Horace W. Whittaker, representing the civic organizations of ‘Takoma Park, which donatedsone flag, and by H. L. Thornton, president of the ‘Takoma Park Chamber of Commerce, who will present the flag donated by the _.business men’s organization. Miss Re- becca Warner will accept the flags in behalf of "Dr. George W. Bowerman, librarian. e An athletic carnival will be staged on ‘Thursday night, beginning at 7 o'clock. A feature will be a rolling-pin throwing contest for women. The principal event will be a 5-mile race, for which a silver cup has been donated by R. Harris, jewelers, of Washington.
