Without knowing who was com- ing, she felt sure that it was some one whom she would rather not have near. 1t was. It was some one Mrs. Bob would rather have a long way off. It was Black Pussy the Cat. Yes, sir, it was Black Pussy the Cat! Black Pussy was out hunting. Black Pussy likes to think that she is a very eat hunter. It is a very good thing for the little people of the Green Mead- ows and the Green Forest that she isn’t as good as she thinks she is. But she is good enough to be a very serious dan- ger to many- little peopie. Now she came stealing along through the grass. Mrs. Bob once more held her breath. She did more than that—she held her feathers close to her body and she took the greatest care not to move. was that Black Pussy failed to get even a little, tiny bit of scent of Mrs. Bob ‘White. She walked right by with her nose working, sniffing and testing every little bit of air that moved and stopping every step or two to listen. She went by so close that she actually brushed against the tussock of grass in which Mrs. Bob's nest was hidden. Don’t you think that that must have been an exciting moment? I don’t know how any momex}t could have been more exciting. But Black Pussy passed on no wiser than Reddy Fox had been, or Farmer Brown's Boy or Mr. Blacksnake.
