S. Issues Firm. BY CHARLES F. SPEARE. Special Dispatch to The Star NEW YORK, July 11.—There was less doing in convertible bond issues today than in any session in over a | week. This affected the general total | transactions, which have been recently boosted by the heavy operations in stock option securities. The market for the latter had a tired appearance for prolonged periods today. Trading in International Telephone 4145 | at times was at a standstill, with the bonds only fractionally changed from Wednesday's closing. American Tele- phone 415 were dealt in to a larger ex- tent than all of the other convertibles combined. with an early gain of 2 points followed by a loss of nearly all of this |and then a further advance. The de- | benture 5s rose a point on small pur- chases, Heavy Tone Shown. Atchison 4!,s, Missouri Pacific 5'4s, | Allegany Corporation 5s, American In- | ternational 5!5s, American I. G. The offer of the United States Treasury to buy $75.000,000 of the 3!, per cent Treasury notes of 1932 stim- ulated the entire Government market, inasmuch as the Treasury bid was more than . point over the price at which { these notes have recently been selling. | All of the Liberty bonds advanced ‘. with even larger gains in some of the | long-term Treasuries. The new 5'j per cent notes sold at a premium 0{ about %. From an original yield of approximately 5.15 per cent, the bonds have advanced so that today’s bid price was at a 4.05 basis. Legal rails and public utilities such as | \Atchison 4s, Baltimore & Ohio 4s, ;Kor(hern Pacific 4s and 6s, Duguesne ht 413s, Prisco 4!5s and Southern tific, Union Pacific and Pennsylvania hnes were all firmer. % the foreign list '@ new high price | tor the year on French government 7s| was the feature. Chicago Bond Action. | An interesting development today was | 2 | the refusal of the Chicago City Council to consent to the sale of an additional 140,000,000 of 5 per cent tax anticipa- tion notes. The objection to this that the bidders for the notes intended to | deposit the proceeds in a Chicago in- lsnmtlun at 2 per cent interest, which would probably be reloaned in the open ’market at the present high call rates| and net a profit, according to the City Councll, to the bankers which did not | justify them in charging a rate of 6 | per cent on the notes. From the dis- tributing side it is obvious that the notes could not be sold to the public on | much less than a 6 per cent basis. PABIS BOURSE PRICES. PARIS.
