NEW YORK, May 25.—An early de- eline was followed by rallies in the cot- ton market today on covering, which appeared to be combined with a little local and n house buying on reports of rains or showers in Western and Central belts and apprehensions of unsettled weather in the belt over Sun- day. October contracts sold up from ¢ 18.37 to 18.50 and closed at !l"’. with the general market closing steady, net unchanged to 4 points higher. The market opened steady at a de- cline of 1 to 5 points under renewed ¥quidation, with the active months showing net losses of about 6 to 13 points during the early trading. No rticular news factor was mentioned connection with the decline, which, however, may have reflected continued or timism over coming crop possibilities and reiterated talk of probable domestic mill curtailment.
